"Chapter 3 Apramana Bat: Fight It Before the Final Boss or Lose a Portraits Entry"

Published 2026-10-07 2 min read Spoiler level: Low

TL;DR

The Apramana Bat, a disciple of Chapter 3's final boss, waits near the North Shore of the Bitter Lake shrine. The moment the chapter's final boss dies, the bat vanishes with him. It drops no unique gear, but it fills a Portraits (journal) entry — completionists must fight it first.

Almost everything in Chapter 3 can be revisited — with one exception: the Apramana Bat. As a disciple of the chapter's final boss, its fate is tied to his: the moment the final boss falls, the bat disappears too and can't be fought for the rest of the playthrough.

Where to find it

The Apramana Bat is located near the North Shore of the Bitter Lake shrine — the shoreline you are guaranteed to reach after the turtle-island main quest. From the shrine, explore the coast and you will run into it.

Since it sits close to the main route, build the habit: when you arrive at the North Shore, kill the bat first, then continue the story. Don't plan to "come back before the finale."

What you stand to lose

The bat drops no exclusive equipment, but it fills a Portraits (journal) entry:

Recommended order

  1. Finish the turtle main quest and reach the North Shore of the Bitter Lake shrine;
  2. Find and defeat the Apramana Bat;
  3. Continue the chapter normally up to the final boss.

Don't confuse it with the Zodiac Village questline, which also starts at the North Shore — the two pair nicely on the same trip. Zodiac Village itself never expires.

FAQ

Not really — it sits near the main route. The problem is nothing tells you it exists on a deadline, so players simply walk past.
No. The final boss's death is its hard fail condition.
Portraits completion feeds into achievement progress. Going for 100%? This one is mandatory. Full list: the missable content checklist.
Below average difficulty. Ranged-friendly builds trivialize it, and at normal Chapter 3 late-game levels it's a quick kill.
