Missable Content Chapter 4

"Chapter 4 Missables: Fourth Sister, Scorpionlord & Daoist Mi — Read Before the Final Boss"

Published 2026-10-07 3 min read Spoiler level: Medium

TL;DR

Chapter 4 holds more missable content than any other chapter. Remove all four purple talismans (Fourth Sister questline) before finishing the chapter; inside Purple Cloud Mountain, defeat the Scorpionlord before stepping into The Duskveil's area, and finish Daoist Mi's questline before killing The Duskveil.

Chapter 4 contains three permanently missable questlines — the most of any chapter. Each fails under a different condition; here's the safe order to handle them.

1. Fourth Sister questline: remove four purple talismans

This questline spans the whole chapter: find and tear down four purple talismans. Finish it before completing the chapter — otherwise you lose an achievement and the Crane Immortal's Portraits entry.

Talisman locations:

  1. First: from the Huajian Bridge shrine (花间桥, on the main path) — climb the stairs, defeat the scorpion-prince miniboss, and continue forward;
  2. Second: at the Juexiang Cliff shrine (绝响崖) — turn around, it's right behind you;
  3. Third: from Juexiang Cliff, press on to a bridge where poison claws strike — use Cloud Step (聚形散气) to cross safely, or you'll be knocked off. Unlock the shrine past the bridge, then backtrack a short distance;
  4. Fourth: at the Jinguang Court shrine (金光苑), just before the chapter's final boss — straight ahead of the shrine.

Removing the fourth talisman triggers a boss fight; win it to complete the questline and earn the achievement.

2. Scorpionlord: don't rush toward The Duskveil

The Scorpionlord lives inside the Purple Cloud Mountain secret area (unlock guide: Purple Cloud Mountain).

He's a genuinely hard fight, so the temptation is "explore first, come back later." In Purple Cloud Mountain that's fatal: when you meet him, either fight now or turn back the way you came — don't keep pushing toward the finale.

The rewards justify the effort: his equipment plus the seven-color gourd (faster drinking — excellent).

3. Daoist Mi: take his quest before touching The Duskveil

Daoist Mi is also in Purple Cloud Mountain, in the courtyard area deeper into the map. His questline rewards an exclusive transformation (Violet Hail):

  1. Talk to Daoist Mi to accept the quest;
  2. He needs a Violet Hail item — it drops from the other yellow-robed daoists in the courtyard;
  3. Hand it over to trigger his boss fight;
  4. Win, and the transformation is yours.

Fail condition: defeating The Duskveil before finishing his questline locks you out permanently. Talk to him the moment you enter the courtyard, before doing anything else.

FAQ

Cast Cloud Step before crossing — the claws can't hit you while concealed. Sprinting across without it usually ends in the ravine.
Not in this playthrough — New Game+ or a backup save. Never enter the corridor leading to The Duskveil before dealing with him.
No — the courtyard has plenty of yellow-robed daoists; one clear usually drops it. Accept the quest first, then farm.
Finish Fourth Sister's talismans before the chapter finale; the Scorpionlord and Daoist Mi deadlines come *earlier*, at The Duskveil. Safest plan: clear them in this order as soon as you enter Purple Cloud Mountain.
